Activated Carbon (Powder) / (Granular)
Activated carbon is produced by carbonizing coconut shells through high-temperature pyrolysis, removing non-carbon components and creating a porous carbonized material. After production, it needs to be activated with hot air, steam, or chemicals. Activated carbon utilizes its surface area, pore size, and the molecular weight and polarity of the organic matter to be removed. It primarily relies on the adsorption capacity of physicochemical properties such as hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces to remove organic pollutants.
Once its adsorption capacity reaches saturation, it must be periodically replaced with new consumables or regenerated to maintain its function.
In wastewater treatment, activated carbon adsorption removes soluble or recalcitrant organic matter from water. As a wastewater treatment unit, its treatment objectives include removing BOD, COD, decolorization, and deodorization.
